Hello, and welcome to the first blog post of Mindful Learning! Understanding Neuroscience is not easy, and I am here to simplify the information for you.
Before we can start diving deeper into Neuroscience, we first need to understand the meaning of the term.
What is Neuroscience?
Neuroscience is the study of the nervous system, specifically the brain. Neuroscience itself is a combination of various fields such as physiology, anatomy, molecular biology, developmental biology, cytology, computer science, and mathematical modeling in order to understand the approximately 85 billion nerve cells in the human brain are born, how they grow, and interconnect to form neural circuits in order to perform human thoughts and actions.
Types of Neuroscience:
Neuroscience is a broad field with man different branches and subfields. Two of the most common branches of neuroscience that I will explain are cognitive and behavioral neuroscience.
Behavioral Neuroscience:
Behavioral Neuroscience(or biopsychology) focuses on the neurological system's effects on perception, attention, motivation, performance, memory, and learning, as well as how these effects show in human behavior. The connection of the brain and behavior in real or simulated situations is the subject of behavioral neuroscience research.
Cognitive Neuroscience:
Cognitive neuroscience is a subfield of neuroscience that studies the brain systems that underpin cognition. Although cognitive neuroscience overlaps with the study of the mind in cognitive psychology, it is primarily concerned with the exact neural mechanisms by which mental processes occur in the brain; the two viewpoints are constantly in flux. It's also known as neurocognition.
Here is a list of examples of the many other subfields of neuroscience:
Neurophysiology.
Neuroanatomy.
Neuropharmacology.
Behavioral neuroscience.
Developmental neuroscience.
Cognitive neuroscience.
Systems neuroscience.
Molecular neuroscience.
This is it for this month’s blog, and I am very thankful that you had the time and showed willingness and passion to learn about neuroscience.
